"Soft Molecular Activation Research Center (SMARC)" has been established in April 2018 from a Next Generation Research Incubator Program "Activation of Soft Molecules directed toward Intelligent Materials," which is promoted by the Institute for Global Prominent Research (IGPR), Chiba University.
SMARC focuses on the catalytic development of the novel soft-elements containing materials. Three key concepts "soft π-electron, soft halogen (I), and soft metals" of the catalyst design will be integrated into a new reaction sphere (e.g., ionic liquids) for activating the soft elements, and for creating the intelligent soft molecules.
Especially, the project for the application of iodine is a most important, because the significant amount of iodine has been produced in this Chiba prefecture.
Due to the impact of this iodine resource, a research center of "Chiba Iodine Resource Innovation Center (CIRIC)" was constructed in SMARC.
We welcome anyone interested in research at the forefront of iodine-related soft molecular activation chemistry to come and work in this diverse and challenging field at Chiba.
